Where Nature Becomes Legacy.

Fine Art Photography of Earth’s Fragile Ecosystems

Doreen McGunagle, Ph.D., is a conservation fine art photographer conducting a long-term visual study of Earth’s fragile ecosystems—from coral reefs and coastlines to wetlands, mountains, wildlife habitats, and polar landscapes.

Working from the air and on the ground, her photographs move beyond documentation to explore patterns, connections, resilience, and vulnerability in the natural world.

Through limited-edition fine art, museum exhibitions, publications, films, and conservation education, her practice transforms observation into stewardship.

Selected Bodies of Work

  • The Living Blueprint

    The Living Blueprint

    Coral Reefs from the Air

Viewed from above, coral reefs reveal themselves as living architecture—intricate patterns shaped by water, light, movement, and time. The Living Blueprint explores the Florida Reef Tract through fine-art aerial photography, revealing the beauty, complexity, and fragility of an ecosystem often hidden beneath the surface.

The series invites viewers to see the reef not simply as a landscape, but as an interconnected living system worthy of understanding, stewardship, and protection.

  • Edges of the Earth

    Edges of the Earth

Fragile Ecosystems from Reef to Glacier

Edges of the Earth is an ongoing visual study of some of the planet’s most fragile and extraordinary ecosystems. Moving from coral reefs and coastal waters to mountain environments, wildlife habitats, and glacial landscapes, the series explores places where beauty, resilience, and vulnerability converge.

Through aerial and ground-based fine-art photography, each image reveals a different chapter in an interconnected living world—inviting us to look beyond the landscape, recognize what is at stake, and consider our responsibility as stewards of the natural world.

  • Enduring Bonds

    Enduring Bonds

    Wildlife, Family & Interdependence

Enduring Bonds explores the relationships that connect wildlife to one another and to the environments they depend upon. Through moments of protection, trust, companionship, and quiet connection, the series reveals behaviors that speak to life's resilience and interdependence in the wild.

Photographed across some of the world’s remarkable natural habitats, these intimate portraits invite us to see wildlife not simply as individual subjects, but as part of complex living communities—reminding us that protecting a species also means protecting the relationships and ecosystems that sustain it.

  • Parks & Preservation

    Parks & Preservation

    America’s Conservation Legacy

Parks & Preservation is a fine-art journey through America’s protected landscapes and the enduring idea that some places should be preserved for generations to come. Through black-and-white photography, the series explores the scale, solitude, and timeless character of the nation’s parks and wild places.

Created in recognition of America’s 250-year story, the work reflects on preservation as both a legacy inherited and a responsibility carried forward—inviting us to consider what we choose to protect and what we will leave for those who follow.

  • Aerial Studies

    Aerial Studies

    Patterns of a Living Planet

Aerial Studies explores the natural world from above, where coastlines, reefs, kelp forests, waterways, and shifting tides become intricate compositions of pattern, color, texture, and movement.

From this elevated perspective, familiar landscapes become abstract while revealing something deeper—the structures and connections that shape living ecosystems. These images invite the viewer to experience Earth differently: not simply as scenery, but as a dynamic and interconnected work of art.

  • Wild Landscapes

    Wild Landscapes

    Places Shaped by Nature

Wild Landscapes explores places shaped by water, weather, geology, and time. From mist-covered mountains and ancient forests to wetlands, coastlines, and open wilderness, the series captures landscapes where nature's forces remain profoundly visible.

Through intimate details and expansive views, these photographs invite us to experience the quiet power of the natural world—and to recognize that protecting wild places begins with understanding their beauty, complexity, and enduring value.
